The impact of group psychotherapy in young adults with Crohn’s Disease

Background: Being told that you have a long-term condition such as Crohn’s Disease can be a traumatic experience. It can result in all sorts of feelings such as fear, anger and sadness which can cause emotional difficulties for the patient and those closest to them.
Aim: To investigate if group psychotherapy helps young adults with Crohn’s Disease
Anticipated Outcome: To understand the role of group psychotherapy in supporting young adults with Crohn’s Disease and be in a position to research this further and offer this service to patients where appropriate.
The first group therapy session was on 18th July 2013, followed by a short summer break in August. Sessions will take place weekly until summer 2014.
